this afternoon

Have a great day tomorrow.

Just a few more far so good
I spent some time yesterday reading the instructions from 'baby knits for beginners' by Debbie Bliss.  The first project is a garter stitch scarf.  So far I have cast on 22 stitches and knitted the first few rows.  I am however using different size needles and different yarn so fingers crossed it still works out.

After we waved good-bye to Daddy there was an excuse to test out the slope on the driveway. We also collected the mail, hugged the koala and picked up the local paper.

When we finished our swimming lessons there was a short trip to the post office to pick up a parcel.  I am probably getting a little ambitious with two toddlers and a new born on the way but I am looking forward the challenge of making something sweet and cosy for this new little one.  I am hoping to be more successful with knitting than I have been with learning to crochet.  The graphics in these books are beautiful and the instructions seem relatively easy to follow but I do have a reputation for not being the best at following instructions so these little projects will be a challenge.

beside my bed...

Ahhhh....sometimes a different cup can make all the difference to help unwind at night.  In the background...
I am rediscovering some favourite recipes (post it note tags) and looking for some new inspiration this season.  Naturally, I am planning to be baking for family and friends as I only have about 6 weeks to go before our new bundle of joy arrives and the scales don't lie (right... Ahemmm).

happy monday...

The one thing about blogging is that I have I am definitely having fun using my camera.  It also gives me a reason to forget about work, stop and be present.  To focus on a subject through the lens is to notice the little things that may normally pass me by...the sheer sense of delight on my children's faces when enjoying the simple things or how a gentle breeze makes delicate flowers dance right before me in my own backyard.

keeping it simple...

Making a car with Dad.  Materials: box, tape, paper plates, strip of happy boy!

Flutterbymama squeezed in some time to sew...more on this another day.

Awesome fun in the backyard!
Hope you had a great weekend.

how to...banana and cinnamon muffins

From: Donna Hay ‘Modern Classics Book 2’
HarperCollins Publishers (2003)
page 43

2 cups plain (all-purpose flour)
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¾ cup caster (superfine) sugar
1 cup sour cream
2 eggs
1 teaspoon finely grated lemon rind
cup vegetable oil
1 cup chopped banana

1.    Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.  Sift the flour, cinnamon and baking powder into a bowl.  Add the sugar and stir to combine.

2.    Place the sour cream, eggs, lemon rind and oil in a bowl and whisk until smooth.  Stir the sour cream mixture through the flour and sugar mixture until just combined.

3.    Sprinkle over the banana and stir once.  Spoon the mixture into 12x ½ cup capacity non-stick muffin tins until two-thirds full.  Bake for 12 minutes or until cooked when tested with a skewer.  Makes 12.

the last few days

I've had a few computer gliches but everything seems to be working now.  Here are some snaps from the last few days.
  • baking (banana muffin recipe will be posted tomorrow)
  • packing and unpacking bags from daycare (Miss Charlie's version of unpacking her bag)
  • taking time out
  • afternoon tea time
  • new bloom
  • quiet moments
Hope you are having a great weekend too.
