weekending: the first birthday party continues...

Well, sometimes the stars just don't align and gathering everyone for baby flutterbug's first birthday didn't really go to plan.  But that's okay we made do...for the second time.  Another party doesn't bother these littlies because it just means more cake for them!  Of course, all this baking and eating requires you to be dressed in your best party outfits (Ahemm), jerseys from our local football club.  (P.S. they don't play football).

Aim: to bake some cupcakes for morning tea birthday celebration

Method: Get as much icing everywhere; followed by eating decorations; followed by spreading hundreds and thousands and mini m&m's all over the kitchen floor (yes...good fun).

Note: Always pack as many sweet treats as you can onto each cupcake.  Decorating cupcakes for your little brother also helps you to forget about the nasty bump on your head.

Result: Gluten Free Vanilla Cupcakes... with a massive load of sugary treats on top!

Wishing you very, very sweet dreams tonight.

Weekending: in the garden

We have a few home grown gifts in our garden this time of year.  In the final days of late Autumn it seems like we are waiting forever for our fruit and vegies to ripen, however, we have to be patient and I guess when we finally pick these treasures we will appreciate them a whole lot more.

 Happy weekending to you!

happy birthday little bear...

  From this...

To this...

It's hard to believe baby flutterbug is one.  While I refer to him as baby flutterbug he seems to have adopted the name 'bear cub' by many members of our family and friends because...well he is just so cuddly like a bear I guess!  His cheeky personality makes us smile each day and we are discovering that this little one really enjoys being mischievous! He takes most things in his stride and little things like a cut on the chin (above - an injury from Daycare) doesn't seem to worry him too much.  We are so very blessed to have him.

a sad day...

My sincere thoughts go out to the devastation across the pacific.

My thoughts are also with my family in north Queensland.
For Gran, a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to so many...

Dedicated, loving, easy-going, crafty and wise.

(93 years)

You will always be in our hearts forever.

make and bake

Nothing beats a packet mix for our morning baking activity.

There's plenty of skill and enjoyment involved; reading, measuring and organising the equipment to bake these little beauties.  Of couse we need plenty of communication, cooperation, sharing and taking turns. Let's not forget every now and then there are some disagreements, a bit of nudging for strategic positions around the table and sneaky taste testing but that's all part of the fun right?

Our patience was tested as we had to wait for the cookies to be baked and then cooled.  Finally, we were rewared with one little bite.
Yum!

May...

In May we are focussed on boosting our immunity and celebrating some special days.  Apart from making time to rest a priority, in my ‘downtime’ you can usually find me with my head stuck in a cookbook searching, collecting and rewriting recipes for soups, slow cooked meals and warm salads.  In May I enjoy spending time in the kitchen preparing meals and making a little extra to freeze for a snack or meal.  There are also two special days to celebrate; Mother’s day and baby flutterbug is one!  I can’t believe how time passes by so quickly.

5 things to do in May…
-   share a Happy Mother’s day
-   visit your local farmer’s market
-   boost your immunity and make nourishing soups
-   enjoy birthday celebrations with your loved ones
-   bake something sweet

I look forward to sharing our May days with you.
