celebrate...
Our crafty urges sprung to life this week. We decided to make paper lanterns to celebrate Chinese New Year. The materials included; glue, glitter, paint, small envelopes, red paper, paint brushes and a free template downloaded from the internet.
Added inspiration was found with some home made butterfly prints and a butterfly post it note.
At the moment were are literally waiting for the paint and glue to dry before we begin to assemble everything. In the meantime we are planning a Chinese banquet for dinner tomorrow night.
You can find the paper lantern template we used here: paper lantern template
Have you got any plans to celebrate Chinese New Year?

morning tea/afternoon tea/lunchbox recipe
Mini Cornflake Honey Snaps
Source: Recipe adapted from 'The Big Book of Beautiful Biscuits', The Australian Women’s Weekly, page 56 (Vintage/Original Edition)
4 cups cornflakes
1 tablespoon sugar
My notes...
The original recipe includes
peanuts. I omit this ingredient so the
kids can take the treat to school for lunch.
I use mini patty pans also. You
get quite a few more out of the mixture and mini patty pans are a perfect size
for toddlers and lunchboxes. We also
include chai seeds or hundreds and thousands for a bit of colour.

All hands on deck. This is an easy recipe for toddlers as long as they have their own tray and patty pans etc.
60g butter
¼ cup honey 4 cups cornflakes
1 tablespoon sugar
- Place butter, honey and sugar into small saucepan, stir over medium heat until butter has melted.
- Lightly crush cornflakes.
- Combine lightly crushed cornflakes in a bowl, pour butter and honey mixture over.
- Mix until cornflakes are well coated. Place mini paper cases in patty tins.
- Use a tablespoon to spoon mixture into paper cases.
- Bake in a moderate oven for 8 minutes.
- Remove from oven, stand 15 minutes to firm.
- Store in air tight container.

First day of Prep...
The other day a friend kindly sent me this package...
because of this...
and this...
Yes, it has all come about just a little too quickly. It only seems like yesterday I was holding a four week early prem baby 5lb 8oz! Look at this little man now. He wouldn't be where he is today, in this moment, if it wasn't for the positive and loving influence of so many family and friends.
He is only 5 years old...
He is inquisitive. He is kind-hearted and he is generous.
Coffee was needed.

Tissues used (for me, not him)
Chocolate devoured!
I am saving the Moscato for the weekend.
Thank you Lisa, you are so thoughtful.

Australia Day...
It is not a very 'Aussie' thing to do but you can guess how I spent Australia Day, that's right - working.
making posters for my classroom
We did have Vegemite on toast for breakfast. A staple item in our pantry.
Covering books - the Vegemite jar left out after breakfast came in handy
Happy Australia Day!

back to school and a birthday...
This week we were preparing for 'back to school', returning to work and celebrating my birthday. I was lucky to celebrate my birthday with my colleagues at work and then with our good friends for a surprise birthday dinner. I was totally surprised!
I am so grateful for having such wonderful family and friends.
