free pattern to try...

Like you, I have a few blogs I love to read.  Anna Maria Horner is one blog I love.  I am definitely saving this free pattern to try over the Christmas holidays for baby flutterbug.  Here's the link to download her free pattern.

rediscovering...

Lately my head has been stuck in this lovely book that arrived in the post the other day.

One recommendation is to sort and organise your scraps. Initially this seemed like a daunting task to me.

But I decided this was as good a time as any...so out came my scraps.  I discovered I had more 'stash' fabric then scrap fabric.  My taste in colour, shades, tones and type of fabric has change over the years as you can tell by the range of fabric above.

I really enjoyed sorting through fabric that I liked many years ago.
It reminded me of life in the country and when I first learnt to make quilts.
Once reserved for forgotton projects in the past, Sunday Morning Quilts inspired me to think of new possibilities.

At this stage, rather than sorting fabric according to colour, I decided to sort according to style/type and 'value'.  I used a Value Finder kindly given to me by my beautiful girlfriend who is far more experienced at quilting than me.

This is close to the end result (above).  I had a few more piles to sort and I labelled the bags according to their value.  Of course this was only the first box!  Amongst this fabric was brights etc that I have decided to leave and sort for another time. Upon rediscovering what I had hidden away my mind started to think of ohh... all the possibilties.

creative chaos

Lately the urge to finish some sewing projects is on my mind.  I have resigned myself to the fact that if I am ever going to complete any creative projects then I am just going to have to work amongst the mess and the toddlers.  Yes, all that beautiful pencil work (scribble) was miss flutterby's attempt to help her mama. At least it wasn't the scissors!

At the moment I am attempting to make a beanie/hat for baby flutterbug.  I am using the pattern from 'making children's clothes' by Emma Hardy as a guide.  To save time and money I am just recycling a grey jersey tunic/dress that I no longer wear.

What projects are you working on at the moment?

home...

Over the weekend as I stared into my fabric stash I realised that while my taste in fabric style, prints, colours and tones has changed over time, the one certainty is that I still have a cupboard full of fabric!   Still in their packets projects, unfinished projects, will get to that one day...projects...oh I forgot I had that... projects...oh my.

What am I really doing when I am selecting and buying all this beautiful fabric? I think it might be the thought of some having some time....time to create...time to give to something special to loved ones...time for myself...time...one thing that is quite precious.

So this morning, after grocery shopping, the household chores were put on hold for some...
'me time'.

Until tomorrow...
